The Story

Several years ago, while on the road far away from home, the wee hours of a calm south Texas night gave birth to an inspiration for me to write a lullaby for my young daughter, then nine years old. It was my gift to her in celebration of the wonderful joy she brought into my life and the lives of so many others.

Now 14 and looking toward beginning high school herself, Nina was shaken during the painful aftermath that immediately followed that tragic day which struck our community and those families whose lives were forever changed. Both of us impassioned to do something to quell the fear and pain that, by then, had inflicted itself upon our home, I reminded her that in giving comfort to others, she too would find comfort.

In a teary-eyed moment with her the day those anguished families had received official notification of the passing of their sons, daughters, and a loving father, Nina chose to give away her musical heirloom with a name change. Among the myriad of other options we had considered, the idea seemed fitting and we went immediately to work with plans to release it as a single. Her offering, though, spawned euphonious contributions from some of the talent of Columbine's neighboring high schools and artists, songwriters and musicians from the Denver area who wanted to lend their heartfelt support through the healing force of music.

At a dizzying pace, our project had evolved from a community-wide musical effort to one which extended far beyond Littleton consisting of many of the unforgettable songs performed at the various memorials and played nationally across the airwaves.

It is through this collaborative labor of love of so many generous individuals, sponsors and corporations who caught our vision and ran with it, that we offer this musical tribute for healing and commemoration to those special people who touched our lives and who "we will always remember".

Nina's Message

A lullaby brings calm in times of fear and pain. It is my wish that the peace and comfort my lullaby often gave me whenever I was sad will bring you the same. Along with the other young people from Littleton and the artists on this CD who gave of their hearts and talent, we offer you our gift of song.

God bless you all.

• One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the CD sales will be contributed to the "Friend of Mine Fund," a collection created to assist victims and their families by the producer of the Cohen brothers song, "Friend of Mine."
