October 19, 1999 Contact:Christina Brickley Barnhart/CMI 303.626.7200 COMMEMORATIVE COLUMBINE CD After five months of artist recordings and coordination on behalf of countless volunteers, "Lullaby for Columbine" is now available for $11.95 at all Musicland outlets, including Sam Goody, MediaPlay and OnCue as well as Family Christian Stores. The CD is also available at www.columbinecd.com. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the CD sales will be contributed to the "Friend of Mine Fund," a collection created to assist victims and their families by the producer of the Cohen brothers song, "Friend of Mine." "The overwhelming support from the countless volunteers, musicians, and now the distribution channels, has made this CD a true collaborative effort," said Michael Tamburello, arranger and producer of the CD. "It is my hope that "Lullaby for Columbine" will serve as a historical contribution through music and art which evokes the array of emotions many of us felt, and are still feeling, toward the tragedy." "Lullaby for Columbine" began as a fathers song to his daughter a lullaby expressing his love for her. However, after watching television coverage of the Columbine tragedy, Michael Tamburello and his daughter, Nina, decided to dedicate the song to the victims and their families. The piece was initially slated for release as a single, but Tamburello soon discovered there was a rapidly developing body of music connected with Columbine and instead pursued the making of a compilation where he was soon approached by countless others who also wanted to share music inspired by the Columbine tragedy. "Lullaby for Columbine" includes 17 tracks by artists including Adrian Belew (who has performed with Paul Simon, Talking Heads and King Crimson), The Colorado Childrens Chorale, Arapahoe High School Wind Ensemble, The Denver Brass/The Colorado Isle of St. Andrew Pipes and Drums and other local and national talent. In addition, Court Shontz, a junior at Littleton High School, contributed a unique guitar/vocal composition titled "Ill Move On" and Denver singer/songwriter Brad Richardson wrote and recorded a beautifully poignant and contemplative song, "A Colorado Columbine." Also featured on the CD are two songs that were heard at victim Cassie Bernalls memorial service: "Nothing Back," by national artist According to John, and "My Last Breath," by local musician Danny Oertli. A song titled "Risen," by national artist Rick Altizer, is also included on the CD, courtesy of KMG Records. The CD cover features donated poster art by Drew Struzan, artist for films such as the Star Wars series, ET and Indiana Jones. Full size posters depicting the cover art will be available for $20 at www.columbinecd.com. For $25, one may acquire both the CD and the poster if they are purchased at the same time. "Lullaby for Columbine" is a volunteer-organized project made possible through in-kind donations totaling over $250,000 by the following people and businesses: Sony Disc Manufacturing, National Digital Television Center, Airshow Mastering, Penguin Digital, Barnhart/CMI, Art for the Heart Foundation, Summit Communication Design, Image Printing Inc, James Baca, Drew Struzan, Cain T-Square, Label Art/Short Run Labels Kinkos, Greg Hatstat, Frontier Airlines, Condit Exhibits and law offices of Holmes, Roberts & Owen.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: "LULLABY FOR COLUMBINE" CD COLLABORATED DENVER More than three weeks after the Columbine High School tragedy, the outpouring of support continues. Flowers, posters, pins, dolls and music are just some of the means by which the community has expressed its feelings. So many songs were written about the despair, in fact, that a collaborative CD is being created in memory of the victims. "A Lullaby for Columbine: Love Endures," will be available to order online May 20, the one month anniversary of the tragedy, and will be in stores in early June. Proceeds from the CD will benefit fundraising efforts for the Columbine community, including the local United Way chapter and the victims families. The CD began as a fathers song to his daughter a lullaby expressing his love for her. However, after watching television coverage of the Columbine tragedy, Michael Tamburello and his daughter, Nina, decided to dedicate the song to the victims and their families. "When we learned of the touching, wonderful music of others following the tragedy, we were inspired to expand our vision," said Tamburello, musician and producer of the CD. "What began as a way for us to grieve has become an outreach of support for Columbine from the music community extending as far as Nashville, Tenn. Nationally recognized talent continues to knock on our door wanting to get on board to lend their support through music." "A Lullaby for Columbine" will include 19 tracks by artists such as Adrian Belew (who has performed with Paul Simon, Talking Heads and King Crimson), The Colorado Childrens Chorale, Arapahoe High School Music Department, The Denver Brass, According to John, Kim Tewksbury-Wright, Bradford Richardson, and other local and national talent. Musical contributions will range from a unique guitar/vocal composition titled "Ill Move On" by Court Shontz, a junior at Littleton High School, to the beautifully poignant and contemplative "A Colorado Columbine," written by Denver singer/songwriter Brad Richardson.
